CONDITION
The bed frame, appears in good stable orginial condition. Overall surface scuffs and nicks to the wooden frame, most notably to the front right leg, a chip to the left headboard column and overall surface dust visible to the naked eye. A roughness visible to the headboard.

Early 20th Century Mahogany Sleigh Style Bed Frame: Offered in this lot we have a sleigh style bed frame originating from the early 20th century. The piece shows solid construction with a mahogany veneer. The bed frame includes the foot board, head board, and original rails. The bed frame shows good condition overall with some wear indicative of age. The frame measures 90" long by 58 1/2" wide and 49" tall at the head board and 36 1/2" at the foot board. Lorin Jackson for Grosfeld House Plexiglas Mirrored Glass and Mahogany 'Glassic' Bed With one headboard and two connecting bed frames, two box springs; Unmarked. 42 in. x 6 ft. 10 in. x 6 ft. 8 in.Note: Plexiglas was produced by Rohm and Haas in Philadelphia around 1936, at the same time that Lucite was first developed by DuPont. Both had the same chemical make up and were used in airplane manufacturing (windshields) during the Second World War. This created a break in Plexiglas/Lucite furniture production which recommenced after the War. Grosfeld House was a New York furniture manufacturing company that produced some of the earliest high-style pieces in Plexiglas, some under the guidance of designer Lorin Jackson, who among other things, was known for her “Glassic" line of furniture in the Neoclassic taste, of which this is an example. See the attached illustration, plate 63 from the book: 'Colour Schemes and Modern Furnishing' by Derek Patmore, First printed 1945, reprinted 1947 by The Studio: London & New York. Condition:Craquelure to the curved Plexiglas top, the top left corner with a broken shard approx. 3 x 1 1/2 in. The pieces is still in place. The mirrored decoration with oxidization and scattered peeling to the back plates, particularly to the center piece. Right side C-scrolled mirror loose, the other re-glued to the headboard. The Pillowed Plexiglas design punctuated with circular beads, many now cracked and damaged. The wooden frame with scuffs and nicks. Otherwise, in generally good condition. Rare New Orleans Market Bird's-Eye Maple and Walnut Five-Piece Bedroom Suite, third quarter 19th century, attributed to the warerooms of Prudent Mallard, comprised of a high-back bedstead,a dressing bureau, a single-door armoire, a washstand, and a night stand, the suite executed in bird's-eye maple veneers with contrasting walnut carving and moldings, the bed headboard with a cabochon-centered crest cartouche over shaped and rectilinear panels, supported by turned posts capped by finials, h. 80", inside w. 61-1/2", l. 83", outside w. 70", l. 88-1/4", the armoire with a similar integral crest over a single door framed by ogee moldings and flanked by distinctive segmented twist turnings at the corners, with a full-width drawer below, h. 103-1/2", w. 57-1/2", d. 28", the dressing bureau in two parts, with a shaped mirror beneath a similar crest, the case with a marble top, a projecting molded drawer over a pair of drawers framed by ogee moldings and a slipper drawer below, the pair of drawers flanked by segmented twist turnings, h. 97", w. 47-1/2", d. 21-3/4", the washstand with a white marble top over a molded drawer, with a pair of doors below, h. 31-1/2", w. 41", d. 22", the nightstand with a dished marble top, a drawer and cupboard door below, h. 33", w. 19-1/4", d. 17-1/2", the suite retaining its original surface. Pieces in this pattern surface occasionally in mahogany, rosewood and walnut. Individual pieces executed in maple with contrasting walnut have rarely been found. The headboard and rail brackets of this bed are very similar to those on the documented suite in the Gallier House, New Orleans, Louisiana. The case pieces also share the distinctive segmented corner moldings and similar overall form.

Very Fine Charleston Carved and Inlaid Mahogany Rice Bed: Charleston, South Carolina, 1795-1810, with fine rice carved fluted and reeded foot posts, tapered square head posts, set with an upholstered canopy frame with hangings, pink fabric upholstered canopy with chintz hangings, 102 x 80-1/2 x 63 in. Note: The exceptionally fluid carving on the footposts of this bed place it among the finest surviving from Federal era Charleston. Closely related examples include a bed in the collection of Winterthur Museum (see Montgomery, American Furniture, The Federal Period, catalog no. 8) and another illustrated in Milby Burton, Charleston Furniture, figure 19. , Provenance: Mobile, Alabama family history; Chicora Antiques, Charleston, South Carolina, April 1998 for $60, 000 (original receipt accompanies lot); Estate of Aubrey Hancock, Charleston, South Carolina Condition top 10 inches of foot posts and lower 12 inches of footposts restored, head posts are later replacements, original rails with some patches.
