Unusual form with carved gadroon edging throughout, centering a carved shell crest to the mirrored back splash fronted by geometric fretwork, the top surface flanked with raised platforms to each side sheltering hidden drawers, all over two short and one long serpentine drawer and flanked by cupboard doors, on short cabriole legs ending on detailed, animal form feet.

American Renaissance Revival Burled Walnut and Walnut Three-Piece Bedroom Suite, third quarter 19th century, attributed to Berkey & Gay, Grand Rapids, Michigan, comprised of a high-back bedstead, a deep-well dresser and a nightstand, of exhibition quality, each piece echoing the thematic elements found on the other pieces, the bed with an architecturally modeled crest, the headboard with an arched burlwood panel flanked by incised classical pilasters and rectilinear beveled panels, the posts with detached columns employing the same theme as the pilasters, the burled and paneled rails joined to the footboard with arched and burled top rail, the corners with columnar posts, h. 107", inside w. 60-1/2", outside w. 71", l. 86", the dressing bureau with an architecturally modeled crest en suite with the bed and a matching full-length mirror supported by a pair of pedestals, each with three drawers and a burled pagoda-form top supporting a singularly conceived circular stand, h. 108-3/4", w. 62-1/4", the nightstand with a concealed lift-top on a cove-molded platform, with a drawer over bag drawers and a cupboard below, h. 34-1/4", w. 19-1/2", d. 18-1/2".
