TWO OILS ON CANVAS OF AFRICAN MOTHERS CARRYING THEIR CHILD, THE FIRST BY "V. MORELLO", BOTH MOTHER AND CHILD HAVE BLUEISH SKIN TONES...Two oils on canvas of African mothers carrying their child, the first by "V. Morello", both mother and child have blueish skin tones, against abstracted background with accents of blue, red, white, and black, signed and dated (1941) lower right, some areas of craquelure, not examined out of frame, ss: 29 1/4" h. x 20 1/2" w.; along with an African mother resting on a bench wearing her child next to a full basket, they both look in the same direction with a calm steady gaze, unsigned, unframed, ss: 22" h. x 18" w.; both with wear consistent with age.

Idoma Peoples Seated Maternity Figure, Nigeria, the wood seated female figure nursing a child resting on her thighs, the female figure with a large head having a cross-hatched hairdo above inset translucent stone eyes, an open mouth and triangular nose, with a black linear design on the cheeks, forehead and eyebrows, with the nose and lips in black and traces of yellow pigment in the hairdo, the figure cradling the baby's neck with one hand and presenting the breast with the other, with traces of pigment overall and a native repair on the child's abdomen and leg, h. 13".
