“Mr. Carder stated that he did not make much Decorated Blue Aurene in that he felt the color did not need any embellishment.” p. 109 Ericson, A Guide to Colored Steuben Glass 1903-1933 Vol. II. The decorated aurenes were made only for a few years, roughly between 1911-1913. Not very many were crafted. Certainly no Steuben of the Carder era commands more respect technically and aesthetically. P.121
In Frederick Carder: Portrait of a Glassmaker by Paul V. Gardner at p. 23, the author says: Carder felt his Aurenes were so beautiful that they needed no additional decorations; only a few decorated Aurene pieces are known. In the late 1920s, several different vase shapes were ornamented with either leaves and vine tailings.
