Note: These two plates were made for two sisters, the daughters of Sir Hugh Clopton, thus the impalements (right side) for Clopton are the same on both plates.
Plate: "This Boothby family originated in Staffordshire as do the Scrimshires, and Thomas Boothby, of Norbury in Staffordshire, assumed the name of Skrymshire, was 'Regulator General' of all ships trading with Britain, and married Anne, daughter of Sir Hugh Clopton, Bt., of New Place, Stratford-upon-Avon. He lived at Tooley Park and Foston, Leicestershire."
Chinese Armorial Porcelain Volume I , David S. Howard, Faber & Faber, 31 May 1974, p. 203.
Soup bowl: "Henry Talbot of Dorking, Surrey, a Commissioner of Revenue, married secondly in 1735 Catherine, daughter of Sir Hugh Clopton of Stratford on Avon (for whom a service had earlier been made and for whose other daughter a service was made--see above). He died in 1784.
In the arms the crescent denotes the family of a second son (of Sir John Talbot who died in 1549). The descendants of this line were created Earls Talbot and eventually succeeded to the much earlier Earldom of Shrewsbury."
