John P. Cowan (American/Tennessee, b. 1920; Active Texas) "Bone Fishing, Grand Bahamas", watercolor, sight 21" x 29", signed lower left, inscribed along lower edge "To Dave, who really brings it on us all, that diehard out in front is not stalking, he's praying". Glazed, matted and framed. Provenance: The estates of David and Eula Wintermann. John P. Cowan studied art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where Norman Rockwell was one of his instructors. A passionate hunter and fisherman, Cowan's favorite subjects are quail hunting and redfish fishing. Cowan's beautifully painted and realistic watercolors are recognized by his collectors as authentic and accurate depictions. Cowan's works have appeared in such magazines as "Fortune", "Life", "Esquire", "Outdoor Life" and "Sports Afield". His works also appear in the book John P. Cowan: A Texas Treasure, by Ray Sasser.
