One-day time only movement with balance wheel escapement and paper dial. Standing colonial style man holding a clock in front of his generous belly, painted in shades of black, white, red, green and brown. Marked "Bradley & Hubbard/Patented. July 14, 1857" underneath. Extremely rare reverse painted tablet depicting Lafayette flags banners & drums; outstretched eagle with banner reading ''E. Pluribus Unum'' and another banner reading ''May the sons of Columbia never forget the friend of their fathers General Lafayette.'' Original signed and painted iron dial. 8 day time and strike brass movement. Nice clean Lucius B. Bradley Watertown CT label. This clock is believed to commemorate Lafayette's visit to the US in 1824-1825.
