Together with a hardback book titled "Painting with Oils" by Warren Brandt. Biography: Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, Warren Brandt studied with Max Beckmann and Philip Guston, and had ties to the Abstract Expressionists in New York. He attended Pratt Institute, the Art Students League, and was an official Army portraitist during World War II. He taught at several universities and headed the Art Department at Salem College from 1949-1950. Provenance: the estate of Lucille Svitzer Brady (Mrs. Frank B. Brady), formerly of Annapolis, Maryland. Condition: 1st item: Wear to seat and rails. 2nd item: Split along top of box. She joined Ruppelwerk GmbH in Gotha in 1929 as head of the "design department for metal goods in coated steel panel". Besides making new designs, she was also in charge of revising the Ruppelwerk's artisan products. It was her declared goal to "bring the confusing and uncharming product range of the Ruppelwerk in line with the Bauhaus philosophy".
