Biography: Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, Warren Brandt studied with Max Beckmann and Philip Guston, and had ties to the Abstract Expressionists in New York. He attended Pratt Institute, the Art Students League, and was an official Army portraitist during World War II. He taught at several universities and headed the Art Department at Salem College from 1949-1950. Provenance: the estate of Lucille Svitzer Brady (Mrs. Frank B. Brady), formerly of Annapolis, Maryland. Condition: 1st item: Wear to seat and rails. 2nd item: Split along top of box.
