GEORGE II BRITANNIA SILVER HOT WATER POTA George II Britannia Silver hot water pot of baluster form, hallmarked London 1731 with Britannia silver marks and makers mark for Thomas Parr. The lid is hallmarked London 1835 together with makers mark for Samuel Wheatley. Fitted with a carved pineapple-shaped finial (condition noted, fissure). Height, 9.75", weight 836 grams. Note: Britannia Silver is .958 parts silver which is greater than sterling silver which is .925 parts silver. The Britannia Standard was put into effect by an Act of British Parliament in 1697 and lasted until 1720 as part of the re-coining effort put into place by William III, but was never truly abolished. Silversmiths continued using Britannia silver for commissioned pieces well into the 20th century.
