To include: George Fry of Shippensburg, PA., dated 1863 surgeons certificate of disability document, matted and framed under glass; measures 16-1/2" in height by 19" in width with a sight image of 8" in height by 10-1/2" in width. George Fry dated 1865 Pennsylvania Volunteers Civil War discharge document with original envelope verso, matted and framed under glass; measures 19" in height by 16-1/2" in width with a sight image of 10-1/2" in height by 8" in width. Includes a photograph of George Fry in his later years, mounted as a broche, measures 1" in diameter. Together with an enhanced photograph on celluloid of George Fry's daughter, Susan E. Fry of Mechanicsburg, PA., sight image measuring 3-1/2" in height by 2-1/4" in width along with her marriage certificate dated December, 22, 1898; measuring 20-1/2" in height by 16" in width with a sight image of 16-1/2" in height by 12" in width. All measurements are approximate.
The 87th Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry was organized in September of 1861 and fought in campaigns from Baltimore, MD to Petersburg, VA. After the surrender of General Lee at Appomattox the 87th Regiment was mustered out at Alexandria on June 29, 1865. By the end of the Civil War the Regiment had lost 10 Officers and 80 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 112 Enlisted men by disease for a total 202 fatalities.
