12 TRIBES OF ISRAEL BRONZE MEDALS -SALVADOR DALI A limited edition set, Salvador Dali's creation (This is set (0159) in a plush velvet case with gold colored menorah on the outside. Each Medal has a painted scene based on the bible, a change for Dali who was usually surreal in his work. Ten of the medals had lithograph designs while Zebulon and Reuben had silkscreen. The obverse of each medal has the painted image, the tribe's name in Hebrew and English and Dali's signature at the bottom. The reverse of each medal had Dali's "Hora around the Menorah" from his Aliyah series and his name in Hebrew at the bottom. BERETTA 'SILVER SNIPE' O/U SHOTGUN,
BERETTA 'SILVER SNIPE' O/U SHOTGUN, 12 GA A wonderful skeet shotgun made by Pietro Beretta in the mid-1960s. The shotgun features two round barrels with full length vent rib with dual bead sights and octagon chambers. The barrels are mounted to a brushed metal finish receiver engraved with the emblem and logo of the company. The walnut furniture features fine hand checkering at the grips with an inlaid bronze medallion of a snipe in flight on the front handguard. Barrels have fixed chokes with the top barrel marked 'SKEET 2' and the bottom 'SKEET 1.' The shotgun is in overall excellent condition with some damage to the factory recoil pad. An oil on canvas of a picnic or garden scene, with a woman on a rocking chair, shaded by a tree. Signature to the bottom left corner. The frame measures 28" x 22 1/4".
Letta Crapo Smith studied with at the Academie Julian in Paris with the likes of William Merritt Chase, Julius Rolshoven, and George Hitchcock, and spent her career traveling and painting in Japan and across Europe. She was President of the Detroit Society of Woman Painters, and notably, she had a work accepted by the Paris Salon. Smith's most famous painting, "The First Birthday," received the bronze medal at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, and would later hang in the Louvre. Today, her works may be found in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Flint Institute of Arts, and Wheaton College.
Condition
The canvas has been lined and re-stretched on a later , with the edge of the original canvas visible just inside the right of the frame's sight edge. Some areas of fine craquelure to the paint layer, which is not very visually distracting.
