George Catlin (American, 1796-1872)
Buffalo Hunt - Chase
hand-colored lithograph
together with a watercolor portrait with annotation on verso:
After alot of research I believe this watercolor was done 1830-1840 period in Paris by one of Karl Bodmer engravers while working on the Atlas. Even though this is not the work of Bodmer it is very well done during the same period. The two top experts on Bodmer; David Hunt and Christian Feest have seen this and both believe it was done by someone who had access to Bodmer's originals.
Lithograph 14 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches.
Watercolor 13 x 8 1/2 inches.
