This bronze sculpture depicts a native american indian warrior sitting triumphantly atop his horse, chin raised defiantly and with an intense stare. The hide of a slain buffalo raised high signals victory. His horse lifts its front hoof and hind leg in recognition of the shared glory. It is signed "Frederic Remington". (Ref. FR5).

LATE 1800S BUFFALO POWDER HORN W/ SHOULDER STRAPFeatured in this lot is this late 1800s buffalo powder horn. The powder horn shows a dark color and a 90 degree curve to the horn. Near the larger opening is a small hole with string thread through it, acting as a sling, and is attached to the bottom portion of leather. The leather shows wear from its antique age and use throughout the years. No inscriptions or marks are present. The powder horn shows good condition overall with no signs of obvious damage present. The powder horn measures a diameter of 2 15/16" at the top and a diameter of 3/4" at the bottom opening. The length of the powder horn is 10".

Avenue Des Ternes, 55 Paris". 3/4 seated portrait of a young Native American Indian man seated in a chair, wearing a feather headdress with beaded band, long hair showing underneath, a bone bead breastplate over a shirt with fringe and holding a bow and arrows. The Show Indians hired by William Cody participated in wildly popular performances at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889. Lively performances showcasing equestrian skills with bow and arrows, attackson settlers, stagecoaches, pony express riders, and wagon trains, reenactments of the Battle of Little Bighorn, the Death of George Armstrong Custer, and the Wounded Knee Massacre led to this show averaging around 30,000 spectators per day while the Eiffel Tower averaged 12,000 visitors per day. Many of these performers went back to the United States to become silent film stars. Approx 4-1/4" L x 6-1/2" H. Overall wear consistent with age. See images for more details on condition.
