Lively performances showcasing equestrian skills with bow and arrows, attackson settlers, stagecoaches, pony express riders, and wagon trains, reenactments of the Battle of Little Bighorn, the Death of George Armstrong Custer, and the Wounded Knee Massacre led to this show averaging around 30,000 spectators per day while the Eiffel Tower averaged 12,000 visitors per day. BUFFALO BILL'S WILD WEST SHOW
BUFFALO BILL'S WILD WEST SHOW DOUBLE PORTRAITStamped on the back "Goplo 55. Avenue Des Ternes, 55 Paris". An unusual image showing two front facing young Native American men. One man standing, wearing a jacket with beaded fringe over a tunic with a long fur pelt sash partially obscuring a posing stand. His hand is resting on the shoulder of a seated man wearing a feathered headband with a beaded strand hanging across his face, a bone bead breastplate, and pelts. Across his lap is what may be a blanket. Against his left leg is a short staff or crop, his right hand holds a revolver with the barrel resting on his knee. Many of these performers brought their families on tour. This trip as a performer with the Wild West Show in the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition would have affordedan opportunity to escape the restrictive confines of the reservations and practice traditional activities such as hunting or dancing while wearing traditional tribal dress, all things prohibited on reservations. As employees of Buffalo Bill they were paid wages, provided food and living accommodations, and given the chance to travel relatively freely. Approx 4-1/4" L x 6-1/2" H. Overall wear consistent with age. See images for more details on condition. This item can be shipped in house.
