Burden was a student of John Herron Art School in Indiana when this painting was exhibited at Phillips Academy's Addison Gallery at Andover, Mass. It won top honors and was later reproduced in LIFE magazine (Dec 6, 1948) and exhibited on a nationwide tour, under the sponsorship of the American Federation of Arts.
