  [Political Americana - Lincolniana] Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Medal North Western Sanitary Fair  Bronzed copper 2.25'' diameter x 0.25'' thick by artist Anthony C. Paquet. Obverse with arched text Memoria In Eterna / Abraham Lincoln around a bust of Lincoln facing left; reverse with North Western Sanitary Fair / Chicago Ill. 1865 around the figure of Columbia clutching the American flag with a military camp and ironclad warship in the background. Issue of 1 000 all or almost all of which were struck with a cracked die which resulted in a diagonal line running from beneath Lincolns ear through his eye and giving rise to the myth that they were struck on the day of his assassination (they were actually minted in June). The Ed Steers Lincolniana & Civil War Collection Condition: Holes drilled through either side three gouges at lower right of reverse and several smaller dings and stains.
