CHINESE CANTON ENAMEL PLATE 18th/19th century, Chinese Canton enamel dish, very well painted with strong colors and fine detail throughout, depicting two ladies and a baby boy in a garden, with detailed floral decoration in a diaper pattern around the rim and on the reverse, unmarked. 1.75" H x 10.25" in diameter. A Canton Enamel Shaped Tray, ca. 18th Century The rectangular form with rounded pinched corners measures approx. 11-3/4" x 8" x 1-1/8"H on four small lobbed enameled feet. The interior of the tray is a finely painted landscape with courtly figures engaged in relaxing activities surrounded by geometric borders with floral reserves. The exposed metal lip is gilt. The sides are decorated in a similar geometric design with floral reserves and the underside is in white with a circular blue and yellow dragon design.

A Chinese Famille Rose Canton Enamel Dish, ca. 18th Century Delicately embellished on the interior with a finger citron and peaches amid flowering branches and leaves with a butterfly above, encircled with a yellow background foliate border, a plum background border with bats and clouds and a blue on white foliate border, the rim and the bottom of the foot in gilt. Equally delicately painted, the outside has a wide yellow background border encircling a blue on white and then a rose on white border. The underside has as bright yellow speckled background and a circular design containing a dragon. Overall it measures approx. 6-1/2"D x 1-7/8"H.

A Canton Enamel Tray of Eight Immortals 18th Century Rectangular form with rounded pinched corners raised on four small lobbed enameled feet. The interior of the tray is a finely painted landscape with courtly figures of Eight Immortals relaxing surrounded by geometric borders with floral reserves. The exposed metal lip is gilt. The sides are decorated in a complimentary geometric design with flowers and birds and the underside is in white with a circular blue and yellow archastic dragon design. Measures approx. 11-3/4" x 8" x 1-1/8"T. Provenance: acquired by the current owner from the Muriel S. Butkin Estate auction September 2009 lot 846.

Set around a central circular tray are eight fitted trays within an a large rounded tray, with two additional trays, for a total of 10. Each deeply set tray is illustrated with a scene from Chinese scholar life with Chinese characters in black. A blue flower stamp on the underside of each tray.

A Fine Chinese Famille Rose "Canton Enamel" Charger probably Qianlong Period (1736-1795) the well finely enameled with a large roundel enclosing noble figures and their attendants enjoying leisurely pursuits on an elegant cliff-side garden terrace overlooking a mountainous shoreline in the distance the cavetto with four oval panels enclosing chilong dragons reserved on a yellow ground with dense trailing vine decoration the exterior sides and base further decorated with chilong dragons height 2 1/4 in. diameter 17 1/8 in. Note: The Canton Enamel process begins with a metal object usually copper which is then covered with enamel (often white) fired and then painted much in the same way a porcelain object would be. Originally developed in Limoges France this highly sought-after enameling technique was introduced into China through French missionaries during the 18th century.

Over a yellow background the inside has a landscape on the bottom with a bridge, water tree, house, and figures. The inner walls have three panels with landscapes, as does the turned down rim. Scrolling pink flower design throughout. Outside decoration of fruits and flowers against white background. Underside of rim and base turquoise glaze.
