FRANK CARMICHAEL (CANADIAN 1890 -
FRANK CARMICHAEL (CANADIAN 1890 - 1945) WATERCOLORDESCRIPTION: Franklin(Frank) Carmichael (Canadian, May 4, 1890 – October 24, 1945) original watercolor depicting a mountain landscape. Signed "Frank Carmichael" lower right. Framed. Franklin Carmichael was a Canadian artist and member of the Group of Seven. Though he was primarily famous for his use of watercolours, he also used oil paints, charcoal and other media to capture the Ontario landscapes of which he was fond. Famous for his watercolours, Carmichael was a passionate landscape painter. Many of his paintings depict the trees, rocks, hills, and mountains of Ontario. His earlier works had flat juxtapositions of colour, but as he matured through the 1920s he emphasized depth and three dimensional space. Early works like the 1920 painting Autumn Hillside display pictorial motifs that became common to his later work. Near the end of his life, Carmichael taught in the Graphic Design and Commercial Art Department at the Ontario College of Art (today the Ontario College of Art and Design University). CIRCA: Late 19th - Mid 20th Century. ORIGIN: Canada. DIMENSIONS: Frame is H:2 1/4" W:18". Watercolor is H: 14 3/4" W: 12". CONDITION: Good condition. See lot description for details on item condition. More detailed condition requests can be obtained via email (info@akibaantiques.com) or SMS (305) 333-4134.
