Note: The designer of this bookcase interprets rather than quotes historical antecedents using a combination of luxurious materials such as the silvered bust the etched glass panels and finely burled veneers to impress the beholder both in detail and overall impact. The large scale and many details on this case relate closely to other pieces known from the Brooklyn NY workshop of Thomas Brooks: the large cup-and-cover finials and fully carved busts atop the stiles are very similar to those on a bed bearing Brooks' stencil illustrated in Dubrow. Styles of American Furniture 1860-1960 p.60. The carved and etched glass panels are related to those on two monumental secretaries attributed to Brooks one illustrated in Dubrow. Ibid p. 52 the other offered here as lot 321 September 11 2010.
