Gilbert, lower right, with inscribed dedication to John Bettesworth-Trevanion (1780-1840), lower margin. 5 3/4 x 9 inches. Bettesworth-Trevanion was a Cornish politician and the heir of the Caerhays estate, where he rebuilt the house as a Gothic-style castle designed by John Nash (1752-1833) between 1807 and 1810.

Mrs. Caudle's lectures to her unfortunate husband were delivered in bed each night when he was compelled to listen.
