Artist Biography (Adapted from askART): Born and raised in Stuttgart, Arkansas, Jerry graduated high school 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Storekeeper Second Class during the Vietnam War. After the war and his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy, Jerry moved to Texas and enrolled in the University of North Texas where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management. He subsequently founded the Malzahn Landscape Company, which he owned and operated for over 40 years. It was during this time that Jerry met and married Lyla (Thompson) Malzahn, and they settled in Coppell, TX. At the age of 48, Jerry began to devote himself to landscape painting and he specialized in Texas and Colorado landscapes. His panoramic landscapes were modeled after those of 19th-century landscape artists. Condition: Overall excellent condition with minor grime noted to sky area.

South Bend (IN): Tribune Printing Company 1899. 12mo maroon cloth with gilt front and spine 118pp plus map (119). A scarce Midwest printing. The authors explain that the work was the result of an oversight on the part of the architects of the new court house in St. Joseph County IN built 1897-98. There were spaces with no plan for decorations so the authors suggested scenes from the history of the county. Their research into significant events resulted in both the paintings at the court house and this book explaining those events. The book is illustrated with half-tones of the paintings as well as other scenes in the county. Each chapter has a "frontis"-type illustration plus additional views. Condition: Shelf wear especially to spine ends and corners. Previous owner's signature on front pastedown and random internal pages. Frontmatter just beginning to release but overall remarkably clean internally.
