DAVID G. BURNET, ACTING PRESIDENT OFDAVID G. BURNET, ACTING PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TE...DAVID G. BURNET, ACTING PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS SIGNED DOCUMENT, GOVERNMENT BOND FOR $100, FOR CHARLES DEMORSE, AUSTIN, FEBRUARY 1, 1941, lithograph and ink manuscript on paper, No. 1932, "Government Bond payable to holder. Receivable for all Government dues. Eight percent fund of $1,500,000. Certified act of Congress Feb. 5th 1840. The Republic of Texas promises to pay to Charles DeMorse (1816-1887)...," signed by John G. Chalmers (1803-1847) as Secretary of Treasury, appointed by President Mirabeau B. Lamar and signed by acting President David G. Burnet, each coupon with John G. Chalmer's monogram and corresponding certificate number in ink, verso inscribed, "Charles deMorse." 7 5/8" x 9 7/8" Note: An unusual Texian document names Charles deMorse as the holder of the bond, while he concurrently also served as Stock Commissioner. A second curiosity is the presence of David G. Burnet's signature on the "President" line; herein he is serving as acting President of Texas during his tenure as 2nd Vice President of the Republic of Texas, while Mirabeau B. Lamar sought medical treatment in New Orleans. Provenance:

CHALMERS THREEPENCE 1783 PCGS AU55JohnCHALMERS THREEPENCE 1783 PCGS AU55John Chalmers (American, 18th century). One exceedingly rare 1783 three pence coin featuring two arms clasped in friendship along the obverse surrounded by "I. CHALMER, ANNAP'S." The reverse features a branch and wreath surrounded by "THREE ∑ PENCE ∑ 1783 ∑" Graded by PCGS as AU55 meaning that there is full detail with light friction on the high points and considerable luster remains.
In the year 1783 John Chalmers produced threepence, sixpence, and shillings in Annapolis, Maryland. These coins served as a means to promote himself as well as earn income. He was a member of the Common Council and may have attended meetings with the Continental Congress. There are very few examples of Chalmer's threepence with an estimated surviving population of around twenty specimens.
