Unsigned impressionist bust length portrait with heavy impasto, suggestive of the Hawthorne student "mudheads" works found hidden in the walls of Hawthorne's barn/studio in Provincetown. 20" high, 24" wide. Paint losses, wear, soiling, canvas partially detached from original stretcher. Property of a CT collector.

Woodbury was the youngest person ever elected to the Boston Art Club, graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Not long after, Woodbury left for Paris to study at the Academie Julian only to return and become a prominent plein air painter.
