18TH CENTURY O/C STUDY OF A CHERUB, POSS. VICENZO ORELL...Continental school oil on canvas painting depicting a Cherub or Putti floating above the clouds with a blue garment surrounding his legs, and several more angels hovering above in a hazy pink sky. Unsigned. Pencil inscription reading "S. Orcull, L. Orcril, or L. Orelli" en verso. Housed in a gilt and gesso frame with acanthus leaf decoration. Sight: 18" H x 14 3/4". Framed: 25 1/4" H x 21 33/4" W. Late 18th-early 19th Century. Note: This work is possibly by Vincenzo Angelo Orelli (Italy, c 1755-1813) and may have been a study for the ceiling of the Santa Maria Annunciata in Serina, Italy painted between 1800 and 1810.

Condition:
Overall heavy craquelure and grime expected with age. Some scattered paint loss in the lower and middle right quadrant, the lower-left corner, upper left corner, and center of the work, largest area approximately 1/2" long, Frame with scattered gilt loss along outer and inner perimeter.
