The bottom half of the poster shows colonial surveyors sighting an Indian village along the river and the top half has two allegorical female figures pointing toward the''progress'' of the built city. Slight imperfections. Matted 22''h. 16''w. Good color. Creases from having been folded. Not examined outside the mat. Can not speak to condition of edges of poster.

CA 1830 OHIO RIVER PAINTING - CHARLES SULLIVANCirca 1830's American watercolor painting titled A SCENE ON THE OHIO, 2 MILES BELOW CINCINNATI. Has boaters, figures, home, etc. 11 x 15 inches, framed 16 x 20. Strongly attributed to Charles Sullivan (1794-1867) from Philadelphia, student of Thomas Sully, moved to Marietta, Ohio in 1833. His river scenes focused mainly on the Ohio River. Examples of his Ohio work can be found in the Ohio History Connection's Campus Martius Museum in Marietta.
