Fine example of a heavily turned-down top with pie crust edge, beveled underneath; dark mahogany or walnut make in the style of late 18th-early 19th century American tilt-and-turn tray tables, which also swivel circumferentially about their tiered, 4-post "crow's nest" neck. Original brass latchet works well and is patinated with age. Fluted shaft and urn has deep foliage and seed carving, ending in cabriolet legs with hip and knee carving, and deeply carved, pad Chippendale feet. Top has some staining consummate with age and use. A bird-cage attached to the underside can be removed from the base; secured by a rectangular peg.
