  Fine New York Chippendale sofa, boldly shaped crest and rolled arms, serpentine front rail on tapered square mahogany legs with H stretchers, heavy oak seat frame, pine back frame, late 18th century, 40-1/2 x 97 x 24 in. Minor break and repair to one front leg, other minor flaws to legs and stretchers, refinished, upholstery removed from back, frame appears to be in good condition, upholstery not removed from front or arms.   *****CHIPPENDALE SOFA. American 2nd half-18th century mahogany. Camel back with reeded front legs and stretcher base. Flame stitch reupholstery. 34''h. 83''. 32''d. Older finish on the exposed mahogany reupholstery is less than 50 years old. We have partially removed some of the underside upholstery what is apparent is mostly newer wood. The exposed mahogany elements appear to have good age but based on the exposed frame we have to assume that this sofa is either a 20th century piece or if it's 18th century then it has undergone significan frame restoration. It is a little loose in the arm joints but still quite sturdy and ''sittable''.
