Civil War kepi, red fabric with brass "1" and "4" on front, chin strap with two brass buttons, mark on inside for "J. H. McKenney & Co.(?)", probably Union, 3-1/2 x 9-1/4 in. Fabric with fading, pest damage, losses to band, lacking red fabric pad at top, bill with surface cracks, repairs and touchup, original fabric liner with wear and creases.

Appears to be extremely early die state (EDS) Obverse develops large cud that extends from left rim to several spikes in the figure. This one only has a small outline and beginnings of what will become the cud and reverse has crumbled die around the edges and on "OUR".

[Civil War - Relics] Ring Made by Confederate Prisoner from a Coat Button A handmade ring inlaid with metal shields on either side and a metal plate on top engraved H.A.P. / Co. A / 5th Inf. Accompanied by hand-written note stating the ring was made by a Southern prisoner from a button from H.A. Phillips' coat during the Civil War. Note and ring housed in a 19th century Boston apothecary box found in a Maine home.
