BOYLE & GAMBLE RICHMOND, VIRGINIA CIVIL WAR SWORDA Confederate Foot Officer's sword made by Boyle & Gamble of Richmond, Virginia (unmarked, but researched by appraiser to identify thusly) and carried by a Richmond, Virginia officer. Does not include scabbard and has dings to the blade, but has etched designs and the initials C.S. to one side and the C.S. emblem on the hand guard. There may be more information but the blade is too tarnished to read it. The sword measures 37-1/4" long, including the handle. The blade measures 32". All measurements are approximate. Provenance: The sword has been passed down through a prominent and early Richmond family able to trace their roots to the 18th C in Richmond, & was used by James H. Grant, I., who was born in 1849 and died September 18, 1883.

White by Co. E 15th Regt. CV (Connecticut Volunteer Infantry) as a token of respect Aug. 27th 1862''. White served in the 15th Connecticut until he was captured in North Carolina March of 1865.

Fire gilt brass guard and scabbard fittings. The guard has ''US'' a Minerva head and eagle head fit with red stones (possibly garnets) for eyes. On the scabbard is ''Presented to A.H. Brown 1st Lieut. of Co. F 178th Penna. Regt. by the Members of the Co. As a Token of Regard''. Tooled blued steel grip wrapped with wire and applied initial monogram. The darkened steel scabbard has additional applications of a shield and American eagle with flags. Minor wear to scabbard 40 1/2''l. overall. Abner H. Brown was Lieutenant of the 178th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment 1862-1863. Muster record copies and a CDV of Lt. Brown included.
