CLAES OLDENBURG (SWEDISH/AMERICAN
CLAES OLDENBURG (SWEDISH/AMERICAN 1929-2022) A PRINT, "...CLAES OLDENBURG (Swedish/American 1929-2022) A PRINT, "Geometric Mouse, Scale D," 1971, articulated 3-dimensional object of die-cut white card with stainless steel wire hinges and bead chains, produced by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, unassembled and in original shrink-wrap packaging; 19 1/2'' x 16 1/2''. Note: Pop Art and Claes Oldenburg commingle in monumental, public structures that sail into our view on the winds of the bizarre and fanciful. The unusual creations were spearheaded by Oldenburg, and in collaboration with his second wife, Coosje van Bruggen, often by his side throughout production. Two favorite pieces I recall are the Shuttlecocks by Mr. and Mrs. Oldenburg. The other favorite is Spoonbridge and Cherry in Minnesota, U.S.A. The present work, "...Geometric Mouse, Scale D is die-cut and equipped with stainless steel wire hinges and bead chains. It is imprinted with reproductions of the artist's notations...published in unlimited edition." A 2/3 reduction and reproduction of a prototype for Geometric Mouse, Scale C.
Condition:
There is a two-inch horizontal tear in the shrink wrap at the bottom/center with associated discoloration and staining on the paper where it was exposed. There are also scattered fox marks on the paper, discoloration at edges, and corrosion on the chains and hinges. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder. Statements by Simpson Galleries regarding the condition of objects are for guidance only and should not be relied upon as statements of fact and do not constitute a representation, warranty, or assumption of liability by Simpson Galleries.
