LARGE MODEL OF THE USS
LARGE MODEL OF THE USS CAMBRIADESCRIPTION: MODEL OF THE USS CAMBRIA (APA-36) DURING THE 1945 OKINAWA CAMPAIGN This full hull, 1/4 scale model of a Bayfield Class attack transport is mounted on two brass pedestal supports and presented in a custom fitted, glazed display case with mahogany baseboard, which is drop-mounted to a matched mahogany display table. Overall dimensions: 60 in. H x 70 1/2 in. L x 19 1/4 in. W The USS Cambria was launched at the Western Pipe and Steel Company shipyard in San Francisco, CA in November 1942 and after she was commissioned in early 1943, Captain C. W. Dean of the US Coast Guard assumed command and she and her Higgins Boats were all manned by Coast Guard personnel through her service in the Pacific Theatre until the end of the war. During the early 1944 invasion of the Marshall Islands, she served as flagship for Majuro Attack Group during the landings. After overhaul at San Francisco and refresher training at Pearl Harbor, Cambria left 30 May 1944 for the Marianas invasion, again serving as flagship of an attack group. She took part in the assault on Saipan in June-July, then led the invasion of Tinian (24 July-1 August). Embarking Army troops and equipment at Honolulu, Cambria joined the Southern Attack Group for the invasion of the Philippines. On 20 October she landed troops at Dulag, Leyte, in the first assault wave, then remained off Leyte as a casualty evacuation ship.Cambria lifted reinforcements from Oro Bay, New Guinea, to the Leyte area, then returned to New Guinea for rehearsal landings at Huon Gulf. She landed troops at Lingayen Gulf during the invasion landings on 10 January 1945, and after a reinforcement mission, got underway for Tulagi to train for the invasion of Okinawa. Cambria staged at Ulithi, then put her troops ashore at Okinawa on 1 April 1945. This highly-detailed, scale model was commissioned by Marine Bank of North America (MBNA) for its corporate art collection, where it was displayed in the office of Senior Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, General Charles C. Krulak (retired Commandant of the US Marine Corps, 1995-1999). The model honored the WWII service of his father, Lt. General Victor H. Krulak (also a former Marine Commandant), who commanded a Marine task force during the amphibious invasion of Okinawa in 1945 and for which USS Cambria served as his flagship. Victor Krulak was also seminal in developing both Marine Corps amphibious doctrine prior to- and during the war, as well as playing a seminal role in the initial design of the Higgins landing craft. Authentic research was provided to Master Modeler Stephen W. Henninger from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, National Archives, Maps and Plans Division, and the U.S. Maritime Commission. This ship is painted in the splinter camouflage pattern she wore during the Okinawa campaign. The model's hull construction was created via hollow-out laminated waterline basswood lifts, with superstructure built-up from a combination of holly, aircraft plywood, and brass. The models includes all essential deck gear, furniture, armament and fittings per this ships design and later modification, e.g. two single 5-inch dual purpose gun mounts, two quad 1.1-inch gun mounts, aft port and starboard, replaced by two single 40mm AA gun mounts, four twin 40mm AA gun mounts, 18 single 20mm AA gun mounts, directors, life rafts, gun tub mounts, radar antennae, railings, ship's boats, anchors, winches, ladders, bitts, davits, funnel, masts, etc., all of brass or Britannia metal modified castings. All elements are authentically painted and camouflaged per naval practice. Originally commissioned by MBNA Bank at a cost of $42,000. This model was donated to the Mars & Neptune Trust by its founding president, James L. Kochan CIRCA: 1940s ORIGIN: England DIMENSIONS: 60 in. H x 70 1/2 in. L x 19 1/4 in. 1904 ELGIN GRADE 280 POCKET WATCH &
1904 ELGIN GRADE 280 POCKET WATCH & GOLD CASEFor your consideration is this 1904 Elgin Grade 280 pocket watch set in a Brooklyn Watch Case Company 10k gold filled case. In 1864, the Elgin National Watch Company was established in Elgin, Illinois, as an American watch manufacturer. The business was renowned for its innovation and accuracy, using cutting-edge manufacturing processes to create dependable timepieces. Initially, Elgin concentrated on making pocket watches because they were in high demand. Elgin watches were created in a variety of looks and patterns to suit different tastes and preferences. Elgin increased its operations and started making wristwatches as the demand for them increased in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sadly, in 1968 the Elgin National Watch Company stopped making watches, and in 1969 it was formally dissolved. The serial number inscribed alongside the movement is numbered, "10126356" indicating it was made in 1904. The pocket watch is a grade 280, 17 ruby jewel, size 16s, model 9 and features a nickel movement finish, bridge plate with gilt inlays and a gold center wheel. This watch is railroad graded with a Class A grade. 1909 HAMILTON GRADE 940 14K
1909 HAMILTON GRADE 940 14K FILLED POCKET WATCHFor your consideration is this Hamilton Grade 940 pocket watch circa 1909. In 1892, Hamilton was established in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and the company started making pocket watches. There was no standard method of timing in place during the early years of American railroads, and accidents were common. Hamilton pocket watches' accuracy contributed to the solution of this issue, earning them the moniker "The Watch of Railroad Accuracy." Hamilton provided hundreds of soldiers with timepieces that could be relied upon at all times during combat in 1914 as an official supplier to the American Armed Forces during World War I. This led to a permanent change in production from pocket watches to the more practical wristwatch. In order to concentrate on the enormous task of supplying the American Armed Forces during WWII, Hamilton stopped making watches for the general public in 1941. Hamilton produced more than a million timepieces, including wristwatches and marine chronometers, between 1942 and 1945, and was even given an Army-Navy E award for manufacturing excellence. In addition to producing chronometers for the Navy, Hamilton also created a special tool for testing them. The dial error of a chronometer could be estimated to within 1/100th of a second per day using Hamilton's Time Comparator. Today the company has partnered with Air Zermatt, the world-famous mountain rescue team and Air-Glaciers, a rescue team with a powerful dedication to honoring their duties in the mountains. The pocket watch shows the serial number inscribed alongside the movement in gold numbering reading, "632428" indicating it was made in 1909. The pocket watch is a grade 940, model 1, 21 jewel, size 18 pocket watch with a nickel movement finish and full plate. The watch is also railroad graded with a Class A grade. The case was made by Crescent Watch Case Company in Roseville, New Jersey between 1904 and 1909 and features a 14k gold filled case with a 25 year guarantee. The pocket watch is in good overall condition and the second hand ticks when wound, showing working condition. The watch measures 2 3/16" in diameter and a height of 3". The watch weighs 119.5 grams.

This cane exudes class and elegance, and, despite a great fragility, it survived intact and in mint condition. -H. ¾” x ¾”, O.L. 35 ¾” -$300-$400 -Cloisonné is a way of enameling an object, (typically made of copper) whereby fine wires are used to delineate the decorative areas (cloisons in French, hence cloisonné) into which enamel paste is applied before the object is fired and polished. -The Japanese characters used for the word shippo (the Japanese term for enamelware) mean “Seven Treasures” which is a reference to the seven treasures mentioned in Buddhist texts. Although these treasures may vary, they generally included at least some of the following: gold, silver, emerald, coral, agate, lapis lazuli, giant clamshell, glass and pearl. The Japanese applied this expression to the rich colors found on Chinese enamel wares and later to those they made themselves. -Piratinera guianensis or snake wood belongs to the family of Moraceae and originates in tropical South America. It is a truly exotic species and probably one of the most difficult woods to find. Typically, it is a very small tree, and only shows the wonderful reddish brown heartwood with speckles of black appearing as hieroglyphics or snakeskin markings in a small quantity of the wood, and then rarely evenly spread across the entire face of the board. Its markings which resemble those of a snakeskin, give this small, relatively rare timber its name. Snake wood is dense, extremely heavy and hard, brittle and splits easily. It becomes very smooth when finished and has natural polish.

April 1922 marked the launching of the light cruiser Nagara. Characterized by its long, narrow hull, this vessel was capable of sailing at a top speed of 36 knots. The following year the Isuzu took its maiden voyage as well. In the same class as the Nagara, the Isuzu was once captained by Isoroku Yamamoto, famed World War II admiral of the Japanese fleet. When the island of Tarawa fell to the Allies in November 1943, these ships quickly became involved in troop movements around Kwajalein and Mili islands in the Marshalls. 1906 JACK LONDON "WHITE FANG,"
1906 JACK LONDON "WHITE FANG," 1ST EDITIONNorth America, United States, New York, ca. 1906 CE. BAL 11896; Sisson & Martens, p. 29. Wow! A first edition of one of Jack London's most famous novels! A fine second issue of "White Fang" written by Jack London (American, 1876 to 1916) and published by The Macmillan Company in 1906. The enthralling tale explores themes of morality and redemption, detailing the journeys of White Fang - a wild wolfdog - through the Yukon and Northwest territories as he transforms from an untamed member of an arctic wolfpack to the domesticated canine of a Californian aristocrat. ALPHONSE TAHAN GLOVEBOX BELONGING
ALPHONSE TAHAN GLOVEBOX BELONGING TO MSGR. HENRI-CHARLE...ALPHONSE TAHAN GLOVEBOX BELONGING TO MSGR. HENRI-CHARLES LAMBRECHT
French, mid-19th century, ebonized wood. Napoleon III glovebox of silver inlay and etched cartouche to the lid bearing the inscription "Monseigneur Lambrecht", stamped to the hardware "Tahan; Paris". Undoubtedly the property of Monseigneur Henri-Charles-Camille Lambrecht (Henricus Carolus Lambrecht), 23rd bishop of Ghent (pictured in the second photo).
Born in a small town near Oudenaarde, Henri-Charles Lambrecht was educated in the local school, before St. Joseph Minor Seminary and the Major Seminary of Ghent, he became Doctor of Sacred Theology at the Catholic University of Leuven, where he also taught. He was appointed to a canonry of St Bavo's Cathedral, Ghent, and served as Vicar General from 1880-1886, when he became coadjutor bishop to Henricus Franciscus Bracq. A forward thinking man, Lambrecht formulated a new and modern way of thinking within the Catholic Church. Times were changing, and coming from a background where a worker was still highly exploited and any form of social security was non-existent, Lambrecht envisaged a completely different function for the church than simply riding along with the ruling bourgeoisie. In Aalst there was priest Daens who gradually succeeded in giving the working class a voice - an appropriate idol with whom's case Lambrecht was particularly fond.
After the resignation of Ghent's auxiliary bishop Gustave de Battice, Henri Charles Lambrecht succeeded him. He was then also (symbolically) appointed Bishop of Gerra. Armed with this new position and social regard, the opportunity for Lambrecht to pursue his dreams for the church’s repertoire with society is given new hope, but is not well-supported by the conservative Mgr. Henricus-Fransiscus Bracq, the current Bishop of Ghent (1864-'88). Nevertheless, Lambrecht is not dissuaded, and still hopes to enact change within the workers' problems of the time.
On May 15, 1888, Monseigneur Bracq suddenly falls ill, and dies not a month later. On April 4, 1888, Lambrecht received the anointing as bishop from Archbishop Goossens. Three months later, on June 17, Lambrecht is appointed Bishop of Ghent, followed by a solemn inauguration on July 2.
The next summer, typhoid laid waste to the hamlet of Papegem (Lede). Lambrecht was on duty, in the thick of confirmation season, amongst the affected families without regard to his personal health. The Ghent bishop often falls ill and is confronted with sudden fatigue, but works on. A year after his inauguration, he was on duty in Okegem and Denderleeuw, the College of Ninove, then spent his last night in the presbytery of Denderleeuw. He died there the next day, July 2nd, after a precise year episcopate, and was buried in his birthplace Welden at the behest of friends and family, making Lambrecht the only Ghent bishop not buried in the crypt under St Bavo's Cathedral.
