CHAVIN SEASHELL MUSICAL
CHAVIN SEASHELL MUSICAL INSTRUMENT / TRUMPET**Originally Listed At $1000**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. An impressive seashell trumpet with beautiful white deposits on its warm yellow surface and perforations at its narrow end for suspension. There were no stringed instruments in South America prior to European contact, but they did have a multitude of wind and percussion instruments. These were played in large ceremonies, perhaps relating to warfare, in tandem with other instruments. A wonderful and extremely early Pre-Columbian musical instrument that still creates a beautiful bellowing sound! Size: 6.1" W x 8.9" H (15.5 cm x 22.6 cm)
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany
