GEORGE CLINTON 1778 MILITARY COMMISSIONScarce New York military commission conferring the rank of major to Peter Fell, 6th Reg., Dutchess County militia. Wartime document signed in 1778 by GEORGE CLINTON, considered one of the nation's Founding Fathers. Clinton served as Vice Presidentof the US, as well as New York governor. Document signed also by JOHN MORIN SCOTT, New York's first Secretary of State and a founding member of the Sons of Liberty. Document measures about 8-1/4" x 12". This document is one of several dozen important signed pieces in today's sale that were part of a large collection of American historical documents from 1650 through WWII.
