STEUBEN GLASS "CLOSE TO THE WIND" SAILS SCULPTURE Cased Two-Piece Steuben Art Glass Sculpture, depicting two sailboats, designed by Lloyd Atkins, in hand polished clear glass, the larger etch signed 'Steuben' on base, in its original red velvet lined fitted leather case, sculptures: 5 1/2" high, 5 1/8" x 1 3/4" and 8 1/8" high, 6 1/4" x 2 1/4", case: 4 3/8" high, 16 1/4" x 12". Larger has an edge occlusion and tiny base corner flake; smaller has a top flake and base edge chip.

An illustration for "The Hurricane" by Charles Nordhoff and Jas. Norman Hill. Appeared in "The Saturday Evening Post", Jan 11th, 1936. Caption: "The Wind is at east. There will be no danger of capsizing". In a replica gold gesso frame with linen cove, OS: 44" x 32", SS: 35 1/2" x 23 1/2", painting is in fine condition, stain to frame linen.
