  COLT 1895 DOUBLE ACTION 38 REVOLVERColt Model 1895 DA .38 revolver. Serial #146812. Barrel measures approx. 4 1/2". According to a family letter passed down it belonged to a Pittsburgh city policeman in the 1920's. (see photo of document) Revolver has age appropriate wear with discoloration to the finish. Backstrap has notch near butt. Left grip has loss. Bore and cylinders have oxidation present. Cylinder rotates counterclockwise when hammer is down. Rifling is easily visible. Lock plate marked, "PAT. SEPT. 19. 1871. July 2. 72. Jan 19. 19. 75.". Hard rubber stocks, metal frame, round barrel. Barrel length - 7 1/2". Overall length - 13". Case - 7" H x 15" W x 2 1/4" D. American, late 19th/early 20th century. (Higher-resolution photos are available at www.caseantiques.com) Condition: 60% blue and case hardened. Good bore and mechanics. Screws are not bugged. Excellent mechanical. Stocks unnumbered but fit perfectly. At base of back strap there is 1/2" x 1/4" slot that was cut out and later filled with a silver metal insert.

James Joseph Igoe Charleston South Carolina. Other Notes: Lt. James Joseph Igoe (1859-1919) served in the Spanish American War and was Captain of the USS Celtic which was the largest contingent of the South Carolina Navy Militia. Under his direction the vessel supplied forces in American and Cuban waters and sailed around Cape Horn for operations in the Philippine Islands. He and his family settled in Charleston South Carolina and he constructed a house at 9 New St. For a period of time he served as the Harbor Commissioner. He was married to Caroline Florence Humphry and together they had several children.
