Glazed, handsomely matted and framed. In 1928, the luxury goods department store Bergdorf Goodman was erected on the former site of the Cornelius Vanderbilt mansion.

TWO GREEN-PAINTED SHIP'S HALF-HULL MODELS Each with a black and ochre hull on a painted green back plate one is the USS Vincennes and the other is the USS Fairfield. Note: Please see lot 98 for further information on half hulls; and see lot 94 for more information on Captain Daniel Delehanty. Commissioned in August 1826 and built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard the USS Vincennes was a 703 ton Boston class sloop of war that was named after the Revolutionary War battle of Vincennes Indiana. It had a displacement of 700 long tons and a length of 127 feet. Within the first four years of being built it was the first Navy ship to circumnavigate the world. She was decommissioned by the Navy in 1865 and one of the Navy's most widely traveled ships. The USS Fairfield was a sloop-of-war and commissioned by the US Navy and launched in June of 1828 in the New York Navy Yard. It had a displacement of 700 tons and length of 127 feet. In 1833 she was part of the Pacific Squadron and in 1837 she departed for the Brazil station. As a protector for American commerce and interest she guarded against a blockade from Argentina set by French warships. She was decommissioned in 1845. Larger 8 3/4 x 40 in.

Half-model of steam yacht, wood construction, hull painted white with green waterline, glass portholes, white decking with ink-drawn planking, deck houses with ink drawn and paper details, carved ship's figurehead of woman in a gown, mounted to a pine shelf, early 20th century, ship 7 x 78 x 4-1/2 in., shelf 9-1/2 x 83-1/8 x 7-1/2 in., possibly a model of a Vanderbilt owned ship named "The Warrior" or "The Wayfarer". Some missing elements including decking on one deckhouse, replaced bow sprit, white deckhouse, trim chipped, crackled paint, dents, scratches, grime. Purchased by consignor from great- or great-great-grandson of Commodore Pierpont Morgan who was said to have purchased the model from an estate sale of a Vanderbilt Home in New England.

JACKSONVILLE CABINET PHOTO RIVERBOAT CAPTAINCharles Edward Garner moved to Florida from Ohio in the early 1880s. He quickly founded a Steamship Line. His ship the Port Royal carried traffic mostly on the lower St. Johns river. He is still shown as owning a steamer line in 1898. Around the turn of the century he left the water, apparently a successful businessman, and by 1902 he was President of the Florida National Bank in Jacksonville His bank issued $5 notes at that time, signed by him. This cabinet photo is in fine condition, and was taken by S. P. (Samuel Peter) Burgert at Burgert's studio in Jax. His name is at the bottom of the photo mounting card.This is the same Burgert who then went to the Tampa Bay area setting up a huge studio run by his family, taking thousands of early photos of the area.
