ROBERT GALLON "THE CONWAY VALLEY" OIL ON CANVASRobert Gallon (United Kingdom/United States, 1845 - 1925) framed oil on canvas depicting the Conway Valley of New Hampshire. Signed "R. Gallon" to lower left, & complete with titled brass placard to lower center stating "The Conway Valley" Robert Gallon. Framed in a weathered ornate gesso gilt frame and having a framed height of 30-3/4" with width of 42-3/4". Has a sight image height of 23-3/8" with width of 35-3/8". With some craquelure consistent with age, & one small hole to top center of piece. All measurements are approximate. Robert Gallon was a landscape and coastal painter from St John's Wood, London. He traveled extensively throughout the British Isles to paint his subjects, which included recognized views of England, Scotland and Wales. He was an active exhibitor in London between 1868 and 1903, primarily at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists.

MARY KLAR, SMALL O/B OF CONWAY, MASS., PLUS FARM LANDSC...1st item: Mary Shepard Klar (American, b. 1882-1944) oil on board landscape painting, titled "Conway, Massachusetts, The Old House by the Road" depicting a farmhouse and barn along a partially shaded country road. Titled and signed on label, en verso. Housed in a molded giltwood frame. Sight: 8" H x 10" W. Frame: 10 1/2" H x 12 1/2" W. Biography: Brooklyn-born artist Mary Shepard studied art at the Pratt Institute. She married fellow artist and teacher Walter Hughes Klar, and they settled in his native Massachusetts. Mrs. Klar was a member of the Springfield Art League and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts in Hartford and was known for her regional landscape paintings. 2nd item: 20th-century oil on board landscape depicting a farm in a lush green setting amid rolling hills, with a village in the distance. Illegibly signed lower right, "E.W---". House in a later molded giltwood frame. Sight: 16" H x 12" W. Frame: 19 1/2" H x 15 1/2" W.
Condition:
1st item: Two tiny flakes to red building at left edge of the painting; some light grime. Frame has several areas of staining. 2nd item: A couple of small (1/4") flakes to sky area; small area of craquelure/tenting to upper right corner, otherwise good condition.
