A sculpted ribbon festoon drapes around 3 sides, suspended on each by a quatrefoil, while pairs of scrolled volutes embellish 2 corners. Additional ribbons gracefully cascade downward from each flower as though the festoons are tied behind them. This playful nature of imitating decoration of one medium with another is a characteristic theme of Roman art and can be seen at other Roman sites such as Ara Pacis Augustae and the wall paintings of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
