CORONATION ROBE CHEST. EARLY 19TH CENTURY. Apainted metal chest with a brass nameplate that reads: The Right Hon’ble Earl Amherst. Coronation Robes. The chest has a worn painted surface and painted interior with flaking paint. There is a brass plate in the interior for Wilkinson & Son Tailors and Robe Makers London. The chest is on a fitted iron stand. The chest is 7" by 15" with stand 41 1/4" by 18 1/2". The surface shows some surface rust, pitting, and flaking in interior. The chest was possibly owned by William Pitt Amherst, 1st Earl Amherst, GCH, PC, 1773-1857, Governor General of India. The chest may have been used for the coronation of King William IV in 1831. Wilkinson and Son are said to have specialized in coronation robes and diplomatic attire for every coronation from William IV to George VI.

MAP OF THE MARITIMES BY CLARA CAIEThe "Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island" map, artistically drawn by Clara Caie (1874-1955), granddaughter of ship owner Samuel Killan, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The neatness, accuracy and penmanship is evident. This work was completed in April 1888; a pure gem that was passed through the family. Condition noted, foxing. Measuring, 15 1/2” height x 19 1/2” width (map, at sight). The Larry Foster Collection. Note: Clara Caie used her wealth to help the community that she loved dearly. Clara, along with Samuel’s daughters Sophia and Clara, were responsible for a variety of projects that enhanced Yarmouth, including, Coronation Park, Milton Library, the clock atop the new Milton #2 Engine House, land and financial support to Yarmouth hospital, financial support for Holy Trinity Anglican Church and enrichment activities for Greenville school, just to name a few. Clara was also a strong advocate for women’s rights and very active in several local and national women’s organizations. She truly made Yarmouth better with her generosity.
