Large Meissen porcelain figure of Count Bruhl's tailor late 19th century After a model by J.J.Kandler, modeled as the tailor astride a billy goat, wearing pink floral coat, tricorn hat, the tools of his trade applied around him, blue cross sword marks. H: 17 in PROVENANCE: Private Collection, Philadelphia, Pa. ,000-15,000 - goat lacking glasses - there is a crack to underside of goat which may be from stress during firing. It does not run through the body - some pin heads in cushion may be broken off - overall good condition, no visible repairs. - 1st quality

3 PORCELAIN FIGURES AFTER COUNT BRUHL'S TAILORThree (3) German and English porcelain polychrome and parcel gilt "Count Bruhl's Tailor" figures by various makers, based on the original modeled in the 18th century by Meissen artist Johann Joachim Kandler (Germany, 1706-1775). Each depicts a satirical representation of the tailor of Count Bruhl, Chief Administrator to the King, who was considered the best-dressed man in Saxony (now Germany), in elaborate 17th century attire with a tricorn hat and wearing spectacles, riding atop a goat also wearing spectacles with various sewing tools, on a naturalistic base. One (1) with a blue Sitzendorf mark, one (1) with a blue Carl-Johann Gottlob Thieme, Dresden mark, and one (1) a gilt Chelsea mark, top or underside of bases. Ranging in size from 6 1/2" H x 2 1/4" W x 5 3/4" D to 10 1/4" H x 4 1/2" W x 7 1/2" D. All items early 20th century.
Condition:
Dresden and Chelsea figures with scattered fleabites to base. Sitzendorf figure with fleabite to tip of scissors.

Very good condition. Slight flea bites to the base rim. Minor paint flakes to strap around the shoulder. Front half rough to touch. Very minor paint loss. Small flea bites to item in mouth. Cracks from aging displayed in the crack of the neck. chip below figures left arm on body. A Pair of Porcelain Figures Count Bruhl's Tailor and His Wife in the Style of Meissen The Tailor and His Wife (Count Bruhl's Tailor and Wife). Two naturalistically polychrome decorated porcelain figural groups each posed on a rocky mound base the tailor measuring apprx. 11-1/2"H x 8"W x 4"D and the wife apprx. 10-1/2"H x 8-3/8"W x 4"D. Each has a stamped mark in black on the underside unidentified manufacturer undated. Glazes are matte and glossy. One of several versions of the pair originating from a design by J.J. Kaendler the famous modeler for Meissen. Prov: from the collection of Frederick Hale McDuff.
