Rare Cowan vase signed by Arthur E.
Rare Cowan vase signed by Arthur E. Baggs from 1927. Hand thrown and simply (yet wonderfully) glazed, this vase is a historical piece of Ohio's ceramic history. Having founded and built the highly successful Marblehead Pottery, Baggs moved to Ohio to work at Cowan and teach at the Cleveland School of Art. Soon after the production of this vase, Baggs went on to teach at The Ohio State University, which houses one of the oldest ceramics programs in the country. Marked with hand-incised RG Cowan mark and signed AEB in script with the date. There are a couple of insignificant scratches to the high glaze finish on the body and a thin strip of roughness to the rim. 7 1/2" tall.
