EDWARD BOREIN (AMERICAN, 1872 - 1945) DRAWING Pen and ink on paper. Edward Borein was an American etcher and painter from California. His artwork depicted Spansih Colonial California, the Old West, and Mexico. He grew up as a vaquero on the Jesus Maria Rancho, later known as Camp Cooke. Borein studied art in New York City, where he became friends with Will Rogers, and in Paris. He was primarily trained as an illustrator. Borein began his career as a cowboy in 1893. He worked on the land for two decades. He became an etcher and a painter, and he opened a studio in El Paseo, Santa Barbara California in 1921. His works of art were nostalgic representations of the Western lifestyle, the Old West, and Native Americans and cowboys.

comprising an example bearing the name C. C. Newberry in gilt lettering and marked Koken Barber's Supply Co. and an example identified Sport Fambrough, stamped Germany on underside.
Height 4 inches.
Ivy Holt "Sport" Fambrough was born on December 6, 1892, in Rusky County, Texas to Sterling Price and Della Mae Andrews Fambrough. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 9, 1917, and served during World War I for two years until his discharge on April 1, 1919. Fambrough married Willie Albertine Whittington Cordell, and the couple had one son, Don (1922-2011). According to U.S. Federal Census records, he operated a meat market and worked as a butcher in Longview, Gregg County, Texas. The nickname purportedly came from his son, both a football player and coach for the University of Kansas Jayhawks. Fambrough died on October 21, 1975.

This unattributed example sports a sharply notched cowboy hat, applied facial, shirt collar, and gun belt detail; a mechanical bullseye and the original signal apparatus back side. The dry red, white, blue and yellow surface in old park paint exhibits a one-of-a-kind surface texture achieved only with time and impact from thousands of lead bullets on a painted iron surface.The figure measures 35.5 inches, overall measurements with display are 41.5 x 16.5 x 10 inches.Good condition as shown. There are no issues of damage or repair.
