Bobby Rockwell, curator of glass of the Rockwell Museum, state that Steuben did not do much crackling. They began crackling glass in the mid-1920s and stopped in the 1930s. Crackling was done mainly as a side effect and only as a special order. Steuben never crackled because of a defect (striation or cording in the glass), as they only used top-quality glass. In addition, many technical and artistic innovations were used when crackling, resulting in different crackle styles.
