BAULE GOLI KPLE KPLE TRIPLE MASK, IVORY COASTA kple kple three-face mask of the Baule people of Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa, used as part of goli ceremonies. Two side-by-side kple kple faces surmounted with horns, and unusually, a third face above is supported by a standing figure and a crocodile. Hand-carved, painted with polychrome pigments.
Measures 25" x 10 1/2" x 6".

This painting depicts Rodrigue's interpretation of a Cajun folklore tale of a fisherman who's quest in life was to catch the largest alligator in the swamp. Once the alligator was caught, the fisherman realized he had nothing to look forward to, thus the alligator hangs symbolically over his head.
