A 19C ITALIAN MARBLE 'PSYCHE REVIVED BY CUPID'S KISS'Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss (Last quarter of the 19th Century.)The 4th century BC story of the god cupid reviving the lifeless psyche with a kiss was first depicted in the original life-sized work by Antonio Canova (1757-1822).This late 19th century Italian version was carved by an anonymous Italian artist in skillful reduction. Intact versions like this nearly a century-and-a-half old with intact wings are.Measures 21.25 x 18.75 x 10 inches.Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs or replacements.Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
