PENNSYLVANIA CURLY MAPLE FLINTLOCK FOWLING RIFLE, SECOND QUARTER 19TH CENTURYPennsylvania Curly Maple Flintlock Fowling Rifle, Second Quarter 19th Century Having a full curly maple stock with slight contouring, mounted with a shaped brass trigger guard and butt plate, supporting a 45-inch patinated cast-iron dual-sight applied tapered barrel, with the lock plate secured by two screw inset mounting plates. Loose connection with hammer of flintlock and frozen trigger mechanism to hammer; very light verdigris to trigger guard and oxidation throughout firing lock and barrel with a few instances of minor indentations; isolated abrasions with surface loss to edges of the stock with an instance of chipping near the muzzle; minor, aged chips and indentations to the stock near the flintlock; ramrod possibly of a later date. Flintlock Kentucky Rifle .40 cal. 42'' barrel. Unmarked except lock marked Ketland D Adams. Brass furniture with daisy-style plain patchbox. Curly maple full stock. Condition: Barrel has nice smooth patina brown with some pitting around the touch hole and pan. Lock is sharp with nice untouched dark brown look. Brass furniture has been cleaned. Stock has an old crack through the front of triggerguard and pin that holds the triggerguard. A small piece of wood has been added on left side of barrel from the breech extending .5'' wide 4'' long down the barrel. Stock has a couple of old repairs.

PENNSYLVANIA CURLY MAPLE FLINTLOCK FOWLING RIFLE, JACOB FORDNEY, LANCASTER, PA, CIRCA 1830-1850Pennsylvania Curly Maple Flintlock Fowling Rifle, Jacob Fordney, Lancaster, PA, Circa 1830-1850 Having a full curly maple stock with shallow carved cheek piece, mounted with a shaped forestock plate, patinated brass trigger guard, and butt plate and with a quillwork engraved patchbox, side plate, and toe plate, supporting a 46-inch patinated cast-iron rear sighted octagonal barrel with applied brass blade front sight, inscribed J. Fordney / Lancaster, PA near rear sight, with a later flintlock with plate stamped Steinman & Son / Lancaster, PA. Developing oxidation throughout flintlock with frozen trigger mechanism to hammer; oxidation reducing towards the barrel with a few instances of minor pitting; isolated stress cracks throughout stock, particularly near pipe mounts further up the muzzle; minor, aged indentations to stock, particularly near cheek piece; adhesive tape applied over the ramrod onto the stock; ramrod possibly of a later date. Illegibly signed on the barrel probably Pennsylvania early 19th century curly maple. 46 3/4'' octagonal to round barrel the stock with good figure an engraved brass patchbox and heavily inlaid with silver and brass including fish. Imperfections. Older finish missing several pins several age cracks (including one that runs most of the length of the stock) last 6'' of the stock restored.

Condition: Barrel has been cleaned to bright with some pitting scattered throughout. Touch hole looks to be re-lined. Hammer is a replacement. Stock has been oiled over with nice dark patina. Brass has been polished at one time and begun to patinate.
