FRENCH CUTTOE HUNTING SWORD 3rd quarter 18th century, a type frequently carried by Americans in the French & Indian and Revolutionary War: very slightly curved single edged blade with false edge and thin and broad fullers, nicely engraved with foliate and animal motifs, with the slogan, "Ne me tire pas sans raison ...," 21 3/8 in. L.; gilt bronze hilt with game birds on the guard and carved bone grip; 26 3/4 in. L. overall. With black leather and brass scabbard.
