CZAR NICHOLAS II CORONATION COMMEMORATIVE CUP CIRCA 1896 HEIGHT 5".CZAR NICHOLAS II CORONATION COMMEMORATIVE CUP, Circa 1896, Also known as a Khodynka Cup of Sorrows, Sorrow Cup or Blood Cup. Enameled metal with decoration of the cyphers of Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra, "1896" and the Russian double-headed eagle surrounded by light blue and orange geometric designs with gilt accents. Unmarked. Dimensions: Height 5". Provenance: Notes:Per long-standing tradition, souvenirs were distributed to the public to commemorate the coronation of a Czar. These cups and food were handed out in Khodynka Field four days after Nicholas II's coronation, where more than a half-million people had gathered. Rumors spread amongst the crowd that there were gold coins in the cups and that there weren't enough cups and food for everyone. Police failed to maintain order and a catastrophic crowd crush occurred, killing more than 1,200 and injuring as many as 10,000. Because of the tragedy, the cups became known as the Cup of Sorrow or Blood Cups.

FABERGE IMPERIAL 15TH ANNIVERSARY EGGDESCRIPTION: Faberge Imperial 15th Anniversary Egg: Made to commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of Czar Nicholas II's accession to the throne. The egg contains miniatures of nine major political events of the year 1911, as well as portraits of the Emperor, Empress, and their five children. The opalescent and opaque white enamel egg is encased within a grid-shaped cage work of gold and green enamel oval-shaped garlands bordered by diamonds, which frame eighteen painted scenes depicting portraits of the Imperial family, the czarina, her husband and their five children. At the top of the egg is the crowned monogram of Tsarina Alexandra. Marked on bottom "Faberge". Includes original box. Circa:20th Ct. 2 SEVRES PLAQUES OF ROYAL COUPLESTwo Sevres white bisque porcelain portrait plaques of Royal Couples: Czar Nicholas II and Czarina Alexandra of Russia, and King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra of England. Both plaques marked en verso with additional old auction lot numbers, Nicholas and Alexandra with additional date of 8 October 1896 and note that the plaque was "made at Sevres on the occasion of their visit to France in 1896, I bought in Paris in 1930"; Edward and Alexandra plaque has label "Maud Wilmot Collection." Condition:
Nicholas and Alexandra plaque has some scattered tiny dark spots and light grime but is in generally good condition. Other plaque is in excellent condition.

Handsome woodcut playbill for the gift show of this little-known performer and including a wood-engraved bust portrait of the magician as well as scenes of his wonderful trained birds and his “trained Russian cat.” The bill also advertises trained mice, who presumably performed separately from the cat. 3 3/8 x 20 ¾". A. British by birth, Logrenia found minor success in England and on the European continent, where he claimed to have performed for the Czar of Russia in St. Petersburg. He settled in America in 1875. His son followed in his footsteps becoming a magician in his own right.

Dated 1994 signed illegibly by the artist and titled in Cyrillic to the bottom "Spas Na Krovi" (which is the name of the church) and numbered 4/15. Framed in a gold tone frame and measuring with frame 14-3/16" in height with width of 12-3/8" & having a sight image height of 7-7/8" with width of 5-7/8".

One side has the Russian imperial crowned eagle, back has the Imperial monogram (NII - probably made as a gift from the court of Czar Nicholas II to an important dignitary or friend). Both sides set on oxblood enamel ground. Interior is hallmarked in 2 places with 84 standard mark from St. Petersburg and HW in oval cartouche for renowned workmaster Henrik Wigstrom (active 1862-1923). Has a 12 inch long silver chain. Size: 3 in long x 1.62 x .75 inches thick. Very good condition, wear to gold interior, fine scratches on enamel, minor wear to end of case where chain meets loop. Guaranteed authentic. Circa 1910.

Kaendler, the god of war, Mars is seated in a ornate chariot, drawn by two caparison white horses, surrounding him, his trophies, comprising of a bow and arrow, quiver banner and drums, and marshall staff, dressed in a cuirasse with detailing of lions, foliate and floral gilt-edging, green and purple fustanella, with a helmet and sandals, all conforming in design, the chariot and clouds with a single putto moulded in two parts and joined, both with factory mark in blue underglaze, the chariot side with painter's numeral 27 in black underglaze, the putto side with incised model number 22 in paste with impressed numerals 121, all underside of adjoined parts, incised model number 22 and impressed 121 on top of putto base, horses marked blue factory mark, incised model number 22 and impressed 121 all underside of horses; dimensions of base: 42 (l) x 19 (w) cm (16 1/2 x 7 1/2 in.), height: 31 cm (12 1/4 in.)

LOT NOTES
The large meissen allegorical figure of Mars in His Chariot, was first modelled in part by J.J. Kaendler and in part by M.C. Acier, designed as a gift for the Czarina Catherine II. Intended for decoration of the Katalnaya Gorka or 'Sliding Hill' pavilion near the Oranienbaum Palace outside of St. Petersburg.
CONDITION
The figurine is in good condition. A chip resulting in loss to one of the feathers of Mars' helmet. Inspection under UV light shows retouching to Mar's helmet, a visible repair to the adjoining bases and retouching and repair to the one of the horses proper left leg.
