Note: Born into a prominent French Louisiana family Marion Sims Souchon was a well-respected surgeon at Hotel-Dieu but his enduring passion was painting. A self-taught artist Souchon favored bright expressive colors strong thick brushwork and an inclination toward modernism. In this painting Souchon depicts a lively dancer encircled by a group of admirers.
